I’ll take Manhattan

New York is my favorite city! (Paris ties second place with Las Vegas, and Miami, FL holds a solid 3rd place position)

SO, I went to NY with my family to the Statue of Liberty, a place I’ve been to MANY times in my life. It was fun, but I am totally trippin’ about this man I saw wearing a spiderman costume.

At the end of the journey. The boat docked on the Manhattan shore and there he was…A grown man fully dressed in a spiderman outfit. He was hiding behind trees and darting in and out of bushes holding up the trademark spiderman fingers – with an indication that there would be a web thrusting out of his wrist? I didn’t get it. He wasn’t getting paid, didn’t have a bucket to collect money, didn’t do any tricks, didn’t sing, dance, hang from trees…All he had was a costume.
A grown man in a spiderman costume, in the middle of a weekday. Creepy. He was sitting on the bench by the time we got off the boat. He had his napsack in his lap, and was just sitting.

Then my oldest son began to approach him in a hostile manner. My son had his two fists cocked in an agressive boxing stance and began to move toward him agressively. I told him to retreat and that in this setting a fully grown man dressed like spiderman for no apparent reason should really be ignored. SO, he pulled his hands back and the spiderman-like odd man got up and said, “oh hey buddy, hi-5” He put his hands up for a high five. and I let my sons give him a hi-5 although I was cringing inside. When I say fully clothed. EVERY PART OF HIS BODY WAS inside of this suit, hands and looked like bare feet.

There is a moral to this story. First, it’s strange for someone to be fully dressed in a costume for absolutely no reason in the middle of a regular workday. Secondly, It was over 80 degrees, so you have to ask why? (especially when you’re not getting paid) Third and lastly, IT’s NEW YORK BABY!!! Wouldn’t be NYC without the oddities and of course LADY LIBERTY! I’ll take manhattan!
