NEW BRITAIN -- The McKesson Foundation, a division of Moore Medical,
presented a $25,000 check to the New Britain Community Health Center
Wednesday. The grant will be used for the center’s Healthy Living
Campaign, which focuses on adolescent health.
Yvette Francis, the director of the health center, said continuing to
focus on prevention is something the center is excited about.
"This grant will allow us to craft messages that speak to adolescents. We
will create marketing brochures, pamphlets and billboards." Francis said,
"We will also be able to provide greater access to materials and resources
for the children."
Moore Medical Vice President Rick Frey said that the foundation is happy to
be able to contribute to the community.
"We are committed to giving away to various charities," Frey said, "and we
think it’s important to give back to the community, it’s our mission."
Giving back to the community is exactly what the grant specifications
outline and raising awareness is the major component.
Grantwriter Jennifer Ring worked closely with the McKesson Foundation to
develop the idea for the program. Ring believes this grant is important
because it will raise the awareness of city youths.
"New Britain youth have a high prevalence of chronic disease at a younger
age." Ring said,
"This grant will identify the resources available to students like the
school-based health clinic we currently have at New Britain High School,
which includes medical and dental care."
Additional plans for the grant include paying for an advertising campaign,
outreach supplies for healthcare for the homeless, and educational materials
for the high school.
